Rev. William C. Lamkin, Minister to Family & Youth
William Curry Lamkin (Bill) has been ministering in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) since 1993.
Bill was born in Montgomery, AL on July 31, 1970; the second child to John and Kitty Lamkin. In 1973, they returned to their childhood home of Pine Apple, AL (pop. 87) so that they could be closer to family and centrally located between the two cities where they taught. The Lamkins were active in the local Baptist Church: his dad served as a deacon and his mother was the organist and pianist. At the age of 11, Bill was baptized along with his older sister. Today, his parents and sister are members of the Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Oak Hill, AL. His dad serves as an elder and regular Sunday School teacher while his mother plays the piano and organ.
Bill was educated in the public schools of Greenville, AL where he was active in sports, social clubs, and maintained a regular work schedule. In 1988 he graduated from Greenville High School with honors. After graduation, he promptly enrolled at Troy State University in Troy, AL where he graduated in three years with a double-major in Business Administration and Management (with emphasis on small business management). It was at Troy that Bill came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ when a fraternity brother explained God’s grace as he presented “The Bridge” with Romans 6:23. After graduating from Troy in 1991, Bill moved to Jackson, MS for a business opportunity in retail and consumer finance.
In Jackson, Bill joined First Presbyterian (PCA) and was active in the College, Career and Singles Ministry. Through this ministry a pastor, ruling elder and a seminarian were very influential in his understanding of Reformed Theology. They also encouraged him to begin seminary at Reformed Theological Seminary in order to explore the possibility of serving God in a full-time role. In 1992, the Singles Ministry went to New York to participate in a short-term ministry with Redeemer Presbyterian (PCA) in Manhattan. It was on this trip that Bill was assured of his decision to pursue ministry and enroll at RTS. After graduating from RTS in 1995 with a Master of Divinity degree, Bill accepted a call to be the Minister of Youth and Education at Young Meadows Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, AL.
In 1996, Bill’s world changed for the better when he met Margaret Carroll. Margaret had just begun work as a mental health therapist after serving on staff with Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) at the University of Alabama. They were married on August 9, 1997 in Trinity Presbyterian Church. On December 26, 1997 Bill and Margaret adopted Lindy from the local Animal Shelter. In 2001, Margaret published a memoir detailing her experiences with heart disease and open-heart surgery: My Flesh and My Heart May Fail (Christian Focus).
Shortly after marrying, Bill and Margaret moved to Linden, AL where Bill served as the Pastor of Linden Presbyterian Church for nearly 3 years. In Linden, Bill was involved in the Rotary Club, West Alabama Sav-a-Life, and the Linden Volunteer Fire Department. From there, they moved to Jacksonville, FL where Bill served as Senior Pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian (a church re-plant near Jacksonville Beach) and then as Assistant Pastor of Northshore Presbyterian Church until 2006.
In 2007, Bill and Margaret moved to Panama City, FL to serve as Assistant Pastor at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Richard Watson. After 2 ½ years of fruitful and joyful ministry in Panama City, the Lamkins moved to South Florida in order for Margaret to complete Medical School at NOVA Southeastern University. For the past 2 years, Bill has been teaching High School Social Studies and coaching football. The Lamkins have also been active at St. Andrews Presbyterian in Hollywood where Bill has had many teaching opportunities.
In his free time, Bill enjoys watching college football, exercising, reading and attempting to play classic rock on the guitar. His life verse is Hebrews 13:5.
